We’re excited to announce the EarthCARE validation campaign taking place in Thessaloniki, Greece from April 22 to May 22, 2025, with the participation of top research teams from across Europe!

3 sites: Urban (Kedek), Semi-urban (AUTH campus), and Rural (Epanomi) aligned with satellite overpasses

πŸ›°οΈ Campaign Objectives:

Direct validation of EarthCARE satellite products related to aerosol & cloud optical properties

Investigate the spatiotemporal variability of solar radiation under various aerosol-cloud conditions

Validate and intercalibrate low-cost sensors and handheld instruments

Explore 3D cloud structures and their radiative impacts, linked with the CERTAINTY project

πŸ”¬ Partners include:

PMOD/WRC (Switzerland)

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, LAP-AUTH (Greece)

University of Zurich (Switzerland)

National Observatory of Athens – ReACT group (Greece)

University of Patras – LAP (Greece)

ECoE – Eratosthenis Centre of Excellence (Cyprus)

πŸ“ˆ In collaboration with HARMONIA COST Action:

2 Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs)

1 MSc project from LAP-AUTH focused on aerosol spatial variability

πŸ”— Supported by the Race ECV project, funded by SBFI Switzerland, this campaign sets the stage for future EarthCARE observations and collaborative research in atmospheric science.

Stay tuned for updates from the field as we advance scientific understanding of the Atmosphereβ˜οΈβ˜€οΈ
